Not everything in Murders on the Yangtze River is deduction. A few puzzles ask you to get your hands dirty, and some of them only give their achievement if you solve them on the first try, so it helps to know the answer before you start.

Wardrobe Lock Codes

Entering the Chapter 1 code without a mistake unlocks Master Locksmith, one of the rarer achievements.
Chapter 4 Circuit Puzzle
The card game on the steamboat starts with a circuit board of red positive and blue negative terminals. Every positive terminal must be wired only to negative terminals, and the wires must form one closed path through the board. Copy the layout below to solve it on the first attempt and unlock Faraday’s Heir. If you make a mistake, reset the board before you finish so the first-try condition is not lost.
Chapter 3 Luminol Reagent
At the laboratory table in the Hanyang Iron Works, follow the recipe in order and add each item to the beaker:
- 0.2 g luminol: 0.2 weight on the right pan, luminol on the left.
- 6 g NaOH: 5 g and 1 g weights on the right pan, NaOH on the left.
- 90 mL H2O: fill the 120 mL tube and pour it into the 30 mL tube; the 90 mL left over goes in the beaker.
- 40 mL H2O2: fill the 120 mL tube and pour it into the 30 mL and 50 mL tubes; the remaining 40 mL is what you need.

Chapter 5 Locked Room Reconstructions
Brainstorm
Correct chain: Returned the key → Through the door → Using a mechanism. Try every other combination first for Exhaustive Exploration.
Mechanism Reconstruction
(Key) → Morse code paper reel → (hand) → Candles → Stool → Phonograph. Using the phonograph as the power source gives Eyes of Truth.
Crime Method Reconstruction
- First board: Asbestos mesh, bottle of kerosene, unburned scraps of paper.
- Second board: Skylight → (Sky lantern) → bottle of kerosene → (Dagger), Candles.
Chapter 6 Stealth Route
- First floor: walk (hold Shift) past the sleeping guard, hide behind the desk, then run to the next desk when the flashlight officer walks away. Head right and upstairs.
- Second floor: sneak left for a cup of water, come back and pour it at the right-hand desk while the guard looks away. He drinks it and leaves.
- Optional: walk to the far right and examine the cat painting for Otherworldly Officer.
- Back on the first floor: wait for the right-side guard to turn, hide behind the desk, then run to the office door.
