Case of the Golden Idol: Case 9 Walkthrough
Case 9: The Interrupted Weekend at the Doctor’s Saloon
Words:
House and grounds
- Map on the left wall: Tea-house, Chess-house, Croquet Field, Flowerbeds, Library, Salon, Fountain
- Third man from the left: Frame, Button, Ptoo
- Spill in the library: Sherry
- Man with the eye patch: Killed
- The general: Provoke
- Man in the blue wig: Stole
- The prince: Club, Seal
- Next to the body: Boomerang
- Plant poster above the body: Drugged
- Constable’s testimony book: Arthur, Falkner, Leopold, Gideon, Koch, Turner, Ergin, Bell, James, Blanchard, Alistair, Podrick, Spade, Billiam, Planted, Augustus, Hill
- Newspaper by the fountain: Vallantine
Hints:
- The constable took seven statements and there are nine people including him. The one he never questioned is the victim.
- The cartoon in the newspaper looks a lot like two of the guests and shows which party each supports.
- The salon shelf should hold twelve seals. One is missing.
- Someone was drugged. Check where people say they ate or drank.
- Write down where each witness claims to have been and look for clashes. At least one person is lying, but lying does not make them the killer.
- One witness says Alistair never left the chess-house, while another places him elsewhere. Another account puts Ergin by the library door when his companion never mentions him leaving.
- Gideon blinks a great deal. That might explain a few strange things in his statement.
- The tea and the herbs Ergin carries are both described as spicy.
- James and Alistair belong to the same group and support Lazarus. As in case 5, the person with the motive and the person who acted can differ.
