All Heartfall guides
Heartfall has 36 achievements, and every one of them is an ending. Most are decided by a few small choices made sessions earlier, so keep a save at the start of each session before you go after them.
How to Get All 36 Endings
The twelve routes split off early, mostly on day one. If you are not sure how to get onto a route, the route unlock guide covers the first choices for each one. Two things come up again and again below:
- Ending flags. Some routes count certain replies. A short jingle plays when you pick one, which is the easiest way to tell it counted.
- Reputation. Other endings check how a character feels about you at the end. Open the Info tab in the menu to see where you stand.
Achievements marked Hidden are hidden on Steam until you unlock them.
Route 0: Have We Been Here Before?
The canon route. Bring Scar the flint and steel, blow him up and pledge yourself to him, then stay on the path. In Session 2, turn Martyn down when he asks you to commit a crime with him.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | So That’s How It Went | Play the route like the original series. At the Dogwarts fight with Martyn in Session 7, do not pick “(Take the blow.)”. |
![]() | That’s Not How It Went (Hidden) | Collect at least four of the ten ending flags below, then pick “(Take the blow.)” at the Dogwarts fight in Session 7. |
Ending flags for That’s Not How It Went
- Session 1: after blowing Scar up, give the long apology that blames yourself (“Scar… I’m just so sorry…”).
- Session 2: pick “(Stay quiet.)” instead of telling BigB about Scar’s scams.
- Session 3: pick “(Stay silent.)” instead of telling Cleo about Scar’s diamond chestplate.
- Session 3: answer “Yeah, of course.” when Scar goes red and asks if you are still friends.
- Session 3: pick “I’m sorry, Skizz. I have to do what he tells me.” while Scar takes Skizz’s gear.
- Session 4: on the mountain, tell Cleo and Bdubs “Go easy on him.”
- Session 4: after Dogwarts is blown up, tell Ren “It was my fault.”
- Session 5: when you are caught trapping the Crastle, say the apology was Scar’s idea.
- Session 5: at the end of the alliance talk with Scott and Jimmy, say you are glad Scar has more friends now.
- Session 6: pick “Knew you could charm them.” when Scar comes back from burning Etho’s castle.
Route 1: The Dark Forest
Build your base in the forest in Session 1. After blowing up Scar, pick “(Take a closer look, one last time.)” on the way to the desert and choose to stay at your base. Both endings check your reputation with Bdubs and Etho when the route ends.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Alone, Beloved | Finish the route with good reputation with both Bdubs and Etho. |
![]() | Die, Together | Finish the route with Bdubs or Etho below good reputation. |
Alone, Beloved is the easy one. At the start of Session 4, accept Bdubs’ request to go and talk to Impulse. Taking the job raises Bdubs, and finishing it raises Etho.
For Die, Together, keep at least one of them from reaching good:
- Session 2: at the Crastle, talk to Bdubs and back out with “Actually, I was just leaving.” This drops him to poor.
- Session 2: outside the marsh, refuse to give Etho a sapling (“I know a thief when I see one!”, then “It can’t be anything good if you’re skulking about!”). This drops him to poor.
- Session 3: pick “(Let it go.)” and “Hey! The Crastle needs a favor.” so neither of them goes up.
- Session 4: skip Bdubs or turn down his Impulse errand, and tell Cleo “He’s on his way, actually!”
Route 2: Dog-Eat-Dog World
Play the canon first day, then complain about Scar to Martyn in the village in Session 2 (“Do you mean working under Scar?”, then “It’s not how I thought things would be.”). Every ending is settled at the Crastle in Session 7.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Back Where It Started (Hidden) | Side with Ren at the Crastle in Session 7: “Do you not have any words for those you killed?” |
![]() | All For Naught | Side with Martyn at the Crastle in Session 7: “Our words can’t reach the dead anyway.”, then “I would rather be remembered for the way I lived than the way I died.” |
![]() | I’ll Be Waiting | With at least three ending flags, disagree with both (“Our words can’t reach the dead anyway.”, then “Aren’t you the ones who killed them?”), then pick “(Let it happen.)” in the forest. |
![]() | Almost Home (Hidden) | Same as I’ll Be Waiting, but pick “(Defend him.)” in the forest. Do not carry Mystic Beef into that scene. |
Mystic Beef matters for Almost Home: if it is in your bag at the end, Grian eats it and you land on I’ll Be Waiting instead. One guide also suggests that picking “Aren’t you the ones who killed them?” without enough flags leads to All For Naught, but this has not been confirmed.
Ending flags for I’ll Be Waiting and Almost Home
- Session 2: tell BigB not to trade with Scar (“Don’t.”).
- Session 4: back Martyn’s plan when you talk to Joel (“Yeah, Joel, keep up. We’re stealing cows from Scott.”).
- Session 4: pick “(Destroy it.)” after reading Scar’s second note. Walking away also plays the jingle, but it does not count.
- Session 5: talk to Impulse and answer his question with “…”.
- Session 5: tell Bdubs and Cleo “We’re going to kill Scar.”
- Session 5: at Dogwarts, say “The Red King should be Martyn.”
Route 3: Live, Laugh, Divorce
Start building your base in Session 1, then accept when Jimmy and Scott ask you to ally with them. The final choice in Session 7 is who gets the Golden Apple: “(Let Jimmy go.)”, “(Let Scott go.)” or “(Take on Martyn.)”.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Love Wins | Take on Martyn yourself, then give an ordinary reply. Do not pick “It was all thanks to the chickens.” |
![]() | Love Loses | Give the Golden Apple to Scott. |
![]() | Hate Wins | Give the Golden Apple to Jimmy while Scott is below good reputation. |
![]() | Hate Loses | Give the Golden Apple to Jimmy while Scott is at good reputation. |
![]() | Happily Eggver After (Hidden) | Win the special Chick Chance result before the end of Session 7, take on Martyn yourself, then pick “It was all thanks to the chickens.” |
Scott’s reputation swings a lot, and only the latest changes really count. Two Session 7 choices settle it:
- When Jimmy is about to walk into your old lava trap, shout “Jimmy! No!” to raise Scott, or do nothing to lower him.
- At the Crastle, pick “(Reveal the Enchanter.)” to raise Scott, or “(Keep quiet.)” to lower him.
Chick Chance for Happily Eggver After
Chick Chance costs diamonds. You are looking for the rare result where a chick hatches and eats your winnings. One player needed 17 plays, and the counter is known to act up when you reload a save that has already played more than ten times. Save before you start, and reload if it goes badly.
Grab the diamond on the beach before you start the route. Checking the river in the flower valley while carrying diamonds costs you one, so keep away from it. These side jobs pay a diamond each:
- Session 2: get terracotta for Jimmy before you leave for the day.
- Session 3: agree to spy on Impulse for Skizz on the way to Joel.
- Session 4: buy a Sand Pass for Tango after Dare to Flare.
- Session 6: find a flower for Scar after asking about Jimmy.
- Session 7: if you revealed the Enchanter, get leather for Scott.
Two more may be possible but are unconfirmed: lapis for Martyn in Session 1, and a diamond from Scar in Session 5 if you stole sand in Session 1.
Route 4: Ashes and Alliances
Talk to Joel in Session 1, help with his wolves and agree to ally with him. The route runs on rails until the morning of Session 6, when Joel asks if you are staying at the Crastle or leaving with him. Save the night before. The Route 4 walkthrough covers every session step by step.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | A Lonely Death | In Session 6, choose to leave with Joel (“I want to leave.”). |
![]() | A New Family | Choose to stay (“I want to stay.”) with none of the Session 5 ending flags below. |
![]() | A Violent End | Choose to stay with at least one of the Session 5 ending flags. |
Ending flags (all in Session 5)
One flag is enough for A Violent End. Three or more also add an extra scene at the end of Session 5. For A New Family, avoid every one of them.
- After Scott and Jimmy, say “If it comes down to it, I’ll take the hit.”, then stare at Joel and mean it.
- Before Scar, pick “It doesn’t matter what he says, I’ll figure something out.”, then “Maybe. Is it so bad if I do?”, then say you would do anything to keep you both alive.
- After Scar, tell Joel you will do anything to protect him, then “I would die for you.”
- Before Etho, answer “I would.”
- After Etho, ask “Is that what you’d do? For someone you care about?”, then stay silent.
Route 5: You Should’ve Aimed for the Hand
Play the canon first day, then agree to commit a crime with Martyn in Session 2. This route has a single ending, so there is nothing to miss.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Can we go to the desert? | Play the route to the end. |
Route 6: The Cow Heist
Play the canon first day, then join Scott and Jimmy’s cow heist in Session 2. The route splits in Session 5, when the group asks you to help find out who burned the valley.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Perennial Garden | In Session 5, agree to help with the investigation. “Of course.” is the quickest reply. |
![]() | Scorched Earth | In Session 5, refuse and insist on checking on Scar: “I can’t… I need to stay with Scar.”, then “Don’t act like you know him.” |
Route 7: Welcome Home, Ally
Agree to help Jimmy wrangle cows when you leave the village in Session 1, then keep following Scar as normal. When you go to sleep, pick “(Remember.)”. All four endings come from your reputation with Scar and with the Bread Boys, Jimmy and Joel, at the end of Session 5.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | To Have Your Alliances, and Keep Them Too (Hidden) | Finish with Scar, Jimmy and Joel all at good reputation. |
![]() | Together in the Desert | Finish with Scar at good reputation, and Jimmy or Joel below good. |
![]() | It’s Us Until the End | Finish with Scar below good reputation, and both Jimmy and Joel at good. |
![]() | What Else Did You Expect | Finish with Scar below good reputation, and Jimmy or Joel below good. |
These conditions come from the game files (v1.02). One Steam guide reports getting It’s Us Until the End with Jimmy only at neutral, so if your result does not match, check the Info tab before the final battle.
The last choice is a trap: after you go red, heading to the flower valley raises both Bread Boys, while heading to the desert raises Scar. You only get one, so plan your earlier choices around it.
Raising Scar
- Session 2: reassure him (“What happens if I die right away?”, then “Maybe we could be.”).
- Session 3: give him the flint and steel as a gift.
- Session 3: pick “(Remain as his ally.)” after going yellow.
Lowering Scar
- Session 2: hint that you want out of the alliance on the beach.
- Session 3: give him the beach sand instead.
- Session 3: pick “(Try to leave.)” after going yellow.
Raising Jimmy and Joel
- Session 3: climb the bakery stairs to talk to Joel. He shoos you out, but he likes you more for it.
- Session 4: tell Jimmy “I liked it when you were brave.”
- Session 4: “(Stop Joel.)” raises Jimmy and lowers Joel. “(Support Joel.)” does the opposite.
- Session 5: before leaving the flower valley, tell Joel “Cheating?” then “I would.”, and tell Jimmy “I trust you.” then “You didn’t deserve it.”
Picking “(Abort the plan.)” in Session 5 drops both Bread Boys to poor in one go, which is the quickest way to the Scar-only endings.
Route 8: Music is Magic
In Session 1, bring Impulse the wood and diamonds for his music box, then agree to show him the library. Three Session 3 and 4 tasks decide the good ending, and Pearl has to stay alive for most of the others.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Solitude | In Session 2, keep refusing to find food for Pearl, the wolf. |
![]() | Self-Inflicted Solitude | Without all three ending flags, refuse to play the music box after Bdubs falls in Session 5, every time you are asked. |
![]() | Dal Segno al Fine (Hidden) | Collect all three ending flags below, then finish the route. |
![]() | Dal Segno al Coda | Without all three ending flags, play the music box after Bdubs falls in Session 5. |
![]() | Fallen Companions (Hidden) | Get Pearl killed: tell her to attack Martyn in the desert and stay silent while she struggles, or step in to stop her when she goes for Bdubs at the end. |
Ending flags for Dal Segno al Fine
- Session 3: agree to bring Etho some Red Jasper.
- Session 3: get everyone dancing, Pearl included (“You sure? C’mon, […], it’ll be fun!”).
- Session 4: agree to collect flowers for Jimmy.
For the music box endings, tell Pearl to run when Martyn attacks in the desert. She only has one life.
Route 9: The Court of Last Chances
Play the canon route for two days. In Session 3, follow the goose in the bottom corner of the flower valley and agree to sabotage the Mystic Grove. The endings depend on how often you push back against Scar, and on how the four court members feel about you.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | A Home Where You Are | Finish with fewer than eight of the ending flags below. Scar survives. |
![]() | Minutes Past Midnight | Finish with at least eight ending flags, and at least one court member below good reputation. |
![]() | Dusk to Dawn (Hidden) | Finish with at least eight ending flags and all four court members at good reputation. Needs version 1.02 or later, since a bug blocked it before. |
The Info tab works as a counter. Scar drops to poor reputation once you have seven flags at the start of Session 6, or eight at the start of Sessions 7 and 8. If he is still good at the start of Session 8, you are on A Home Where You Are.
Ending flags
- Session 4: scold Scar for killing the creeper in the bush.
- Session 5: tell Scar sneaking out is too risky.
- Session 5: stay silent (“…”) when you are caught escaping the court.
- Session 5: refuse to use the curse for Scar’s antics in the flower valley.
- Session 5: side with Etho about the free sand.
- Session 5: refuse to make a promise with Scar at the Crastle.
- Session 5: tell Scar not to play Dare to Flare.
- Session 5: listen in on Scar with Cleo and Bdubs at Dogwarts (“(You don’t like the look of this.)”).
- Session 5: leave the communal chest at the volcano alone. This also costs you a chance to raise Lizzie.
- Session 5: agree with Impulse and Bdubs when they complain about Scar (“Trust me, I understand.”).
- Session 6: let Scar make up the cover story by himself (“(Ignore Martyn.)”).
- Session 6: stay silent instead of promising to stay after Scar goes yellow.
- Session 7: refuse to apologise for the Mystic Saplings. This also costs you a chance to raise Gem.
- Session 7: complain about the photo (“You’ve got to be kidding me.”).
- Session 8: stay quiet instead of helping Scar talk to Dogwarts.
Court reputation for Dusk to Dawn
Mumbo, the jester, and Pearl, the wolf, are set to good at the start of Session 7, so only Lizzie, the queen, and Gem, the guard, need work. Both start at poor and need at least two raises each:
- Lizzie: agree to ally with Joel in Session 5 (“Sounds fair to me.”).
- Lizzie: in Session 5, take the biggest, shiniest item from the volcano chest.
- Lizzie: in Session 7, say it would have been awful to lose something so important after you return her treasure.
- Gem: in Session 6, say “You should’ve been there too!” when you get back.
- Gem: in Session 7, while looking for the goose, pick “Woah! Dude, that’s awesome!” and apologise with “… You’re right, it was stupid to do. I’m sorry.”
Route 10: Any-fin is possible!
Pick up the fishing rod at the dock in Session 1, fish until the Catalog Book comes up, then read it and accept its quest. The endings depend on who gets the twelve gifts you fish up. The Route 10 walkthrough lists every gift, its owner and where to find them.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Bass Friends Forever: True Pacifish (Hidden) | Fish up all 12 gifts and deliver each one on the day you catch it. |
![]() | Fish or Be Fished: Fishmaster (Hidden) | Deliver at least one gift, but not all of them. Reloading your Day 4 save and holding back that day’s gifts works. |
![]() | Goodbye Krill World: Fishing Anonymous (Hidden) | Fish up all 12 gifts and keep every one of them. |
Route 11: Wolf in Sheep’s Wool
Start a new save. In the starting grove, keep interacting with the statue until it blinks, then follow the altar quest. You lose access to the statue once you leave the beach. The Route 11 walkthrough covers the sessions in between.
| Icon | Achievement | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
![]() | Never Alone Again (Hidden) | At the volcano in Session 7, pick “(Refuse to abandon your friends)”. |
![]() | A Promise Fulfilled (Hidden) | At the volcano in Session 7, pick “(Do something reckless)”. |
