Unlock the True Ending in Castlevania Belmont’s Curse by clearing the Four Virtues trials and casting Absolution on Dracula.
Castlevania Belmont’s Curse: True Ending Guide
The True Ending closes Rose Belmont’s story for good. Beating Dracula alone does not get you there. You must finish the Four Virtues trials in Notre-Dame, defeat the Doppelganger for The Self Arcana, then face Dracula again and cast Absolution in the scene after the fight to break the curse.
Step 1: Collect the Four Required Arcana Cards

First, gather the four Arcana tied to Courage, Prudence, Justice, and Temperance. Each card opens one of the stained-glass trials in Notre-Dame’s Gallery of the Four Virtues.
| Arcana | How to Get | Required Spell |
|---|---|---|
| The Warrior | Defeat Joan of Arc at the top of the Prison Tower. | Infernal Pyre |
| The Sage | Free Queen Eleanor and meet her in the Mausoleum of the Queens. | Mirror Walk |
| The Judge | Solve the Scales of Justice puzzle in the Palace of Justice. | Chains of Justice |
| The Whisperer | Find the Ferryman’s Obol and give it back to the Ferryman. | Freezing Path |
You get The Warrior as part of the main story. The other three need extra exploration and optional objectives.
Step 2: Get The Judge Arcana From Saint Louis

The Judge Arcana comes from the Scales of Justice puzzle in the Palace of Justice, in Paris Streets.
- Go to the Court of Justice and enter the Palace of Justice.
- Find the giant scales with a corrupted heart on one side.
- Collect enough Brave Heart and Wise Heart Fragments for four upgrades of each type.
- Go back to the scales and stand on the empty left pan.
- Interact with the mechanism to start Saint Louis’ judgment.
- Keep interacting until the scales balance and a cutscene plays.
The puzzle rewards The Judge Arcana and its Chains of Justice spell. If the scales stay uneven, get more Health and Mana upgrades and try again. This encounter can also give you the Legendary Valmanway sword.
Step 3: Get The Whisperer Arcana From the Ferryman

For The Whisperer Arcana, you need three Eye relics. They let you into Mammon’s Lair in the Catacombs of Paris, where the Ferryman’s Obol is kept.
- Thrilling Eye: In the Hospital, reached through the Street of the Tomb Masons in Paris Streets.
- Trembling Eye: In the Pillaged Tombs, under the Fountain of the Innocents in Holy Innocents’ Cemetery.
- Oozing Eye: On a raised platform in the Circle of Greed, in the Catacombs of Paris.
With all three relics in hand:
- Go to the Circle of Greed in the Catacombs of Paris.
- Equip all three Eye relics in the Equipment menu.
- Walk up to the gate covered in flesh and interact with it.
- Enter Mammon’s Lair and defeat Mammon.
- Take the Ferryman’s Obol from the treasure in the lair.
- Go back to the Ferryman at any of his wharves.
- Hand him the Obol to get The Whisperer Arcana.
The Whisperer gives you Freezing Path. You need it to enter the Temperance trial in Notre-Dame.
Step 4: Get The Sage Arcana From Queen Eleanor

The Sage Arcana is tied to Queen Eleanor. At first she is locked inside a chained mirror in Dracula’s Castle. To free her, break the four magic seals linked to special Mirrors of Life:
- Paris Streets: Prison Tower.
- Main Hall: Archives, through the Servants’ Hall.
- Clock Tower: Mechanic’s Ascent.
- Notre-Dame: East Gallery.

At each special mirror, enter the challenge room, break the seal above the mirror, and defeat the enemies that spawn. Do this at all four mirrors. Then:
- Go back to the Mirror Rooms in the Main Hall.
- Enter the Hall of Mirrors next to them.
- Work through the maze. Use the kneeling spots and Mirror Shrines to uncover hidden passages.
- Keep going until you reach Belmont Manor.
- Defeat the Succubus and take The Temptress Arcana.
- Follow Eleanor’s clues to her family mausoleum.
- Go to Holy Innocents’ Cemetery and enter the Mausoleum of the Queens.
- Make your way to the Tomb of the Noble Queen and talk to Eleanor.
Eleanor gives you The Sage Arcana and its Mirror Walk spell. That is the last of the four cards you need for the Virtue trials.
Step 5: Complete All Four Virtues Trials

With all four Arcana, go back to Notre-Dame and find the Gallery of the Four Virtues. It has four stained-glass windows, one for each Virtue. Equip the matching Arcana before you interact with a window. Each trial ends with a bell, and ringing it grants that Virtue’s blessing.
Trial of Courage
- Equip The Warrior Arcana with Infernal Pyre.
- Interact with the Courage window.
- Enter the arena and beat Joan of Arc in a rematch.
- Finish the fight to get the Blessing of Courage.
Trial of Prudence
- Equip The Sage Arcana with Mirror Walk.
- Interact with the Prudence window.
- Climb the platforming section and avoid the sawblades, spikes, and falling debris.
- Get to the large bell and strike it for the Blessing of Prudence.
Trial of Justice
- Equip The Judge Arcana with Chains of Justice.
- Interact with the Justice window.
- Climb the bell tower, fighting enemies and dodging mechanical traps on the way.
- Ring the bell at the top for the Blessing of Justice.
Trial of Temperance
- Equip The Whisperer Arcana with Freezing Path.
- Interact with the Temperance window.
- Get through the water platforming section while avoiding spikes and other hazards.
- Use the grapple points to reach the bell.
- Strike the bell for the Blessing of Temperance.
When all four trials are done, go back to the gallery. The huge rose window over the central altar is now fully lit.
Important: All four Virtue trials must be completed and their bells rung. Finishing the Works of Mercy linked to the Arcana cards does not count in their place.
Step 6: Defeat the Doppelganger and Unlock Absolution

Now you can take on Rose’s shadow and earn the spell the True Ending needs.
- Go to the central altar under the lit rose window.
- Interact with the altar to enter a hidden chapel.
- Get ready for a boss named ???, also called the Doppelganger.
- Defeat the shadow version of Rose with whatever weapons and spells you like.
- Absorb The Self Arcana once the fight ends.
- Pick up the remaining reward to complete the related Work of Mercy.
- Go back to the altar and interact with it once more.
- Talk to Sypha’s spirit to finish the last preparation for the True Ending.
The Doppelganger copies Rose’s own moves, such as sword strikes, aerial movement, and dangerous magic. Keep moving and punish it after each combo ends.
Beating it gives you The Self Arcana and the Absolution spell. It also unlocks the Shadow Work trophy or achievement and the Doppelganger Style Costume.
Step 7: Defeat Dracula Again and Cast Absolution

With Absolution unlocked, head back to Dracula’s Castle for the last fight. This step matters most: owning Absolution does not guarantee the True Ending on its own.
- Return to the Master’s Quarters in Dracula’s Castle.
- Check that the Cursed Horologium is disabled, so you can reach the real final boss.
- Save at the Mirror of Life in the Sanctuary of Solitude.
- In the Equipment menu, equip The Self Arcana.
- Set Absolution as your active spell.
- Go through the Grand Staircase and the Throne Room Antechamber.
- In the Court of the Night, defeat Dracula’s humanoid form.
- Move on to the Castle Rooftops and defeat his Winged Demon Form.
- After the second phase, watch the dialogue between Sypha and Rose.
- When the chance comes, hold the Cast Spell button to use Absolution.
You have about 12 seconds to cast Absolution after that dialogue. Don’t wait for the whole scene to play out. If you miss the window, you may get the Normal Ending instead.
Once Absolution is cast, Rose destroys Dracula’s curse and Paris is at peace again. You get the True Ending and the Curse Lifted trophy or achievement.
