The Forever Winter: Tips to Avoiding Hunters

Curious about how to steer clear of Hunters during scavenging runs in Forever Winter? It’s easier than you might think! The key lies in knowing what sets them off and mastering your movement strategies.

The Forever Winter: Tips to Avoiding Hunters

  1. Focus on the Loot
From my experience with around 30 successful extractions, the main factor that attracts Hunters is the loot. Items like Weapon Components, AI parts, and valuable materials for crafting weapons, cyborgs, or mechs will make you a prime target. Be cautious about what you collect and weigh the risks involved.
  2. Stay Mobile
Mobility is your best defense against Hunters. In many cases, you can simply outrun them if you’re aware of your surroundings. The AI can be somewhat clumsy, often getting stuck on walls or other obstacles, which makes it easier to evade them. Keep moving quickly and avoid getting trapped.
  3. Unstoppable Run Penalty
If you’ve had a string of successful runs—like extracting 3-4 times with valuable items—you’ve likely caught the Hunters’ attention. They will spawn right at the start of your next map, making your scavenging much more difficult. At this point, you’re being targeted due to the high-value loot you’re repeatedly carrying.
  4. Feeling Overwhelmed? Consider Dying
If the pressure from Hunters becomes too much, here’s a strategy: intentionally go into a map without gear and let yourself be taken out. This will reset the AI’s aggression towards you, making your next scav runs significantly easier. Think of it as hitting a reset button on their behavior.

Final Thoughts

Maintain your mobility, be mindful of the loot you pick up, and if things get too intense, don’t hesitate to take a tactical loss. This approach will help keep the Hunters at bay and make your scavenging experiences in Forever Winter smoother. Good luck, and happy scavenging!
