General Tips

  • Keep track of what you find in the Notepad. It stops the information from piling up in your head.
  • In text files, anything you need for a password is always in bold. Everything else is story and lore.
  • Memo is the quickest way to jump between folders and keep notes on each one.
    • It is a small “app” you can install once you finish the second level of Paper Boy.
    • It makes a post-it with the folder’s name, a field for your own notes, and a shortcut that opens the folder.
    • To pin the folder you are in, click the small pin in the top-right corner of the folder explorer, to the right of the address bar.
  • Pin any folder with a little ghost in its background. You will need it later.
    • A ghost marks a place where Hidden Files will show up once you unlock them.
  • Most of your searching begins in the “Document” folder, which branches into “Home” and “Family”. Once you install the UnZipper, check the Download folder as well.
  • When the User Panel is unlocked with UserPanelEnabler.cmd, go to Control Panel > Users and click Ellie’s profile to change her credentials.

Minigames

Paper Boy

A side-scrolling runner. Jump with left click or the Spacebar. The longer you hold, the higher you go.

Paw Claw

Let each opponent come close. Strike with left or right click once the area turns green.

  • Dogs: run straight at you with no tricks.
  • Birds: fly over you first, then drop down and charge.
  • Kids: take two strikes and change position after the first one.

Photo Lab

A plain paint-by-number game. There is no need to hurry, so take your time and enjoy the music.

If you cannot find an area left to paint, press the small dot button under the color to highlight what is missing. When every area is done, they all flash green once.

Under Dog

Each phase asks you to pick the right action to move on, and more than one may work. A wrong choice gets a red arrow on its left, so you can see what you have already tried.

Who Wants to Be a Smooch-lionair?

You cannot fail this one. If an answer is wrong, just pick another.

Bonesweeper

A reskinned Minesweeper. It is optional and has no effect on the story. You only need it for an achievement.

Ellie’s Session Login

Click the “?” button to the right of the password field for a clue. If you are not sure of the answer, look at the bottom-right corner.

Document > Family > Pawing the pavements

Open devnotes.txt in Document > Family > A boy & a girl > … > One more letter. Find the start date of Lucien’s postman contract and add the day, month, and year together.

Document > Family > A boy & a girl > … > Days passing by

The clue is a whiteboard picture, paperboy.jpg, in Document > Family > Pawing the pavements > Hello you > Breakfast. What is written on the whiteboard points you to the Control Panel.

Control Panel & Admin Rights

  1. Run UsersPanelEnabler.cmd to unlock the User Panel in the Control Panel.
  2. Open the User Panel and click Ellie’s profile to switch her credentials to Administrator.

When you come back from Lucien’s session, you have Admin Rights. These open Admin Protected folders such as:

  • Document > Home
  • Document > Family > An artist's mind
  • Document > Family > A boy & a girl > … > Asking Out

Next, go to Documents > Family > An artist's mind > Rising sun and run UnZipper.exe. This installs the UnZipper app, which opens zipped files like:

  • Document > Family > A boy & a girl > … > Kneel Down
  • Document > Family > Pawing the pavements > … > Afternoon stroll
  • Downloads > Random stuff
  • Downloads > Common hobby

Documents > Home > Departure

The password uses two pieces: the bold date in opportunity.pdf (A boy & a girl > … > Kneel down) and the year from invitation.pdf (An artist's mind > Rising sun).

Documents > Family > An artist’s mind > … > December 1972

Run ProgramsPanelEnabler.cmd from Documents > Home > … > September 1972. This opens the Program Panel in the Control Panel. The answer is the 11th program in it.

Downloads > Common hobby > Emotional support

Put these three pictures together to get the password:

  1. walk.png in Documents > Family > Starry Mountain > Mummy
  2. in the.png in Documents > Family > Starry Mountain > Daddy
  3. forest.png in Downloads > Common hobby > Emotional support

Open codex.jpg in Documents > Family > An artist's mind > … > Colorful souvenir. Use it to decode the password hidden in HOW LONG?!.txt, found in Documents > Home > … > September 1972.

Documents > Family > An artist’s mind > … > August 1973

You need the name of Lucien’s game master. It appears in his letter speechless.pdf, in Documents > Home > … > March 1973.

Documents > Home > … > Resume

Someone told Lucien that Ellie was back in Bordeaux. Their “name” is the password, and you will find it in no hesitation.txt (An artist's mind > … > Bad joke?).

Documents > Home > … > 2 years later

This one has no clue. Rearrange the letters to form the word.

Then run UnderDog.exe to install the “Under Dog” app. It unlocks the minigame and the folders tied to it. The Under Dog path begins in Documents > Family > Starry mountain.

Documents > Home > … > Love ball

The password is the city named in postcard.lab, inside Downloads > Common hobby > Emotional support.

Documents > Family > Starry mountain > Big boy

Look at the polaroid picture coop game.pdf in Documents > Family > Pawing the pavements > … > Gonna miss you. The password is written on it.

Documents > Family > Pawing the pavements > … > Nap time

Join the two halves of the post-it:

  1. post-it_1_2.pdf in Documents > Family > Starry mountain > … > Good boy
  2. post-it_2_2.pdf in Documents > Family > Starry mountain > … > Check up

Documents > Family > Starry mountain > … > Math break – 1985

Clochette’s “human age” is the answer. It is given in 25 years.txt, in Documents > Family > Pawing the pavements > … > Like cats and dogs - 2001.

Run Ghostbuster.cmd to reveal the hidden files. Then piece together the four parts of a ghost picture:

  1. little ghost 1/4.jpg in Documents > Family > A boy & a girl > … > Kneel down
  2. little ghost 2/4.jpg in Documents > Family > An artist's mind > … > Bad joke?
  3. little ghost 3/4.jpg in Documents > Family > Starry mountain > … > April 2003

After this folder there are no more passwords. The rest is Smooch-lionaire quizzes, and you cannot lose those.
